About the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has been established under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to create an effective framework and ecosystem for the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of cybercrime in a comprehensive and coordinated manner. It consists of seven verticals:
- National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP): For centralized reporting of cybercrime complaints.
- National Cybercrime Threat Analytical Unit (NCTAU): Responsible for bringing together law enforcement agencies to share threat intelligence reports.
- National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (NCFL): Equipped with state-of-the-art forensic tools, located at Dwarka, Delhi.
- Joint Cybercrime Coordination Team (JCCT): A platform for coordinated efforts against cybercrimes with the help of law enforcement agencies.
- National Cybercrime Training Centre (NCTC): Offers advanced simulation, capacity building, and training of LEAs and judicial officers on cybercrime.
- National Cybercrime Ecosystem Management Unit (NCEMU): Coordinates with academic institutions, ministries, and more.
- National Cyber Research and Innovation Centre (NCR&IC): Facilitates partnerships with institutions for R&D in cybercrime.
Cyberspace is a dynamic environment of interactions among people, software, and services, supported by a worldwide distribution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) devices and networks. While it has brought innovation, it has also increased dependency on internet-based networks and introduced new forms of transnational cybercrime.
To address this, the I4C initiated an Internship Program in 2021 for UG/PG/PhD students of recognized institutions to gain exposure to cybercrime investigation and policy-making.
