Tell us about the infrastructure of your law college
Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, has well-developed infrastructure across its 4.25-acre city-center campus. Facilities include 13 spacious smart classrooms with modern tech, one of Kerala’s largest law libraries (a University Research Centre with online journals and computers), and a fully equipped Computer Centre.
We have separate amenity rooms for boys and girls, a hygienic canteen, and sports facilities like a Volleyball Court. There’s a modern Seminar Hall and a state-of-the-art Moot Court Hall, crucial for advocacy training. The college receives around 1.5 crores annually for development. Rating: 4/5

The academic environment is very strong, led by 20 eminent and approachable permanent faculty who consistently produce top university scorers. A strict 75% attendance policy per paper promotes consistent engagement, balanced by provisions for students in extra curriculars. Classes run daily from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

How’s the peer quality in your college? Rate it on a scale of 5 with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.
The peer and senior quality is exceptional. Everyone is very friendly and collaborative, constantly helping with resources and doubts. In-depth conversations with peers and seniors are highly instrumental in grasping complex subjects, fostering a strong sense of mutual growth and support. Rating: 5/5
Tell us about the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
The college offers a vibrant array of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. This includes an active Legal Aid Clinic (Clinical Legal Education), frequent academic seminars (International and National), and diverse clubs like the Literary and Debate Club, Arts Club, Moviola Film Society, and MUN Club.
The Moot Court Society is very strong, providing training and hosting competitions, with students consistently achieving national recognition. I personally volunteered as a Court Officer at the 19th All India Moot Court Competition and as a Liaison Officer in MUN competitions. Rating: 5/5
How are the placements in your college?
We have a very strong and supportive Career Training & Placement Cell (CTPC). It offers extensive guidance, soft skill development, CV preparation, and mock interviews. The cell arranges campus interviews with reputed law firms and companies, and actively supports students in securing internships. Many students secure campus placements in various IPR, IT (Law), and general law firms. Rating: 4/5
How are the hostels in your college?
Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, provides hostel facilities. The ladies’ hostel is conveniently on-campus, accommodating 140-160 students in a secure, three-floored building with a hygienic mess hall, study room, reading room, cyber room, TV room, sick room, and common room. Male students are accommodated in a separate block at the University Hostel for Men in Palayam. Rating: 4/5
What are the best things you like about your college?
I highly appreciate the college’s rich legacy and prestige, alongside the exceptional and approachable faculty. The vibrant and supportive peer culture, where everyone fosters mutual growth, is invaluable. Lastly, the outstanding diverse co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities, supported by a strong Placement Cell, make my experience incredibly enriching and prepare us holistically for the legal world.
In your opinion, what are bad things about your college?
One area for improvement is modernizing infrastructure and technology, like updating classroom tech and ensuring broader Wi-Fi coverage. Additionally, there’s a significant misconception that government law colleges, including ours, are driven by politics or accept recommendations; this is false.
Admission is solely through a highly competitive statewide entrance exam, ensuring only meritorious students gain entry. It’s crucial to dispel this myth.
Anything else you want to share?
The college’s strategic location in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city, offers unparalleled access to legal institutions and real-world exposure. Beyond academics, there’s a strong sense of community and camaraderie, with diverse students enriching campus life through cultural events and discussions.
This holistic environment truly shapes us not just as legal professionals but as informed individuals.
How would you rate your college overall on a scale of 10?
8/10
