About
The Refugee Studies Centre and the International Journal of Refugee Law (IJRL) are jointly organising an online workshop for prospective authors, designed to support the development of high-quality scholarship in refugee law. This workshop will allow researchers to receive detailed feedback on their work from IJRL Editorial Board members in a constructive, collaborative setting. The IJRL is a leading peer-reviewed journal dedicated to international legal issues in forced migration. The event will take place on Zoom in early December 2025 (exact date to be confirmed), from 2–4 PM UK time.
Eligibility
Submissions are invited from scholars researching any area of refugee studies or forced migration, provided their work engages significantly with international law. The organisers especially encourage contributions from those based in, or writing about, under-represented regions, and from scholars with lived experience of displacement.
Roles and Responsibilities
Selected authors will share their draft papers and engage in an open and collegial feedback process. Participants are expected to respond constructively to comments aimed at strengthening their work. The workshop is chaired by Catherine Briddick, Andrew W Mellon Associate Professor of International Human Rights and Refugee Law.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit the following materials to rsc-outreach@qeh.ox.ac.uk by Friday, 12 September 2025 (12 noon UK time):
-
A brief covering letter containing your name, institutional or other affiliation, and an abstract of your paper.
-
A draft paper of at least 5,000 words, prepared in line with IJRL’s Instructions to Authors.
Between 6–8 papers will be selected for the workshop. Selected applicants will be informed by the end of September 2025, and will be expected to submit their revised drafts by mid-November 2025.
Additional guidance for new authors is available via the Oxford University Press Author Resource Centre. For further queries, contact: catherine.briddick@qeh.ox.ac.uk
A second workshop in this series will be co-hosted by the Center for Migration and Refugee Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
