The Faculty of Law at Aligarh Muslim University offers a historic yet evolving academic environment. While the infrastructure reflects the university’s legacy, there have been ongoing efforts to modernize and upgrade various facilities.

  • Classrooms: The classrooms are spacious and well-ventilated. Some are equipped with smart boards, while many still follow a traditional teaching setup. Seating is sufficient and comfortable, even for large batches.
  • Library: The faculty library is one of the key highlights. It boasts an excellent collection of textbooks, journals, Bare Acts, law reports, and reference materials. Students also have access to online legal databases. The reading area is quiet and conducive to focused study.
  • Sports & Extracurriculars: AMU provides excellent sports facilities across its main campus, including grounds for cricket, football, basketball, tennis, and indoor games. Law faculty students can avail themselves of these facilities. Participation in extracurricular activities such as debates, moots, and cultural events is strongly encouraged.
  • Hostel Rooms: The university offers on-campus hostel facilities. The hostels are basic but affordable, with shared rooms. While some hostels are well-maintained, others are in need of renovation. The mess food and sanitation facilities could be improved, though the overall atmosphere is friendly and secure.
  • Overall: The infrastructure supports the academic and personal growth of students. However, further modernization and consistent maintenance would enhance the experience even more.

Infrastructure Rating: 4.5/5

The academic culture at AMU’s Faculty of Law is rooted in discipline, intellectual rigor, and the encouragement of student potential. The environment fosters critical thinking, consistent learning, and practical exposure through regular tests, discussions, and competitions.

  • Number & Quality of Faculty: The faculty comprises experienced professors and dedicated assistant professors. Subjects such as Contract Law, Constitutional Law, and Legal Language are taught with real-life applications, making legal concepts easier to grasp. Professors often connect theoretical knowledge with current affairs and practical legal scenarios.
  • Class Timings: Classes typically run from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with short breaks in between. The schedule is well-managed, providing students ample time for self-study, assignments, and extracurricular activities.
  • Attendance Policy: Attendance is moderately strict. A minimum percentage is required to be eligible for examinations. However, genuine reasons are considered if communicated properly.
  • Student-Faculty Interaction: Professors are generally approachable and supportive. They encourage participation in moots, debates, and paper presentations, and often emphasize the importance of discipline over mere motivation.
  • Overall: The academic culture is dynamic and progressive, promoting both academic excellence and personal development.

Academic Culture & Faculty Rating: 4.5/5

The peer quality at AMU’s Faculty of Law is diverse, competitive, and inspiring. Students come from various parts of the country, bringing strong academic backgrounds and unique perspectives. This diversity fosters a rich environment for discussion, collaboration, and personal growth.

Many of my peers are highly motivated and actively participate in moots, debates, and essay competitions. They are passionate about their legal careers and committed to their academic journey. There is healthy academic competition, accompanied by a supportive atmosphere where students willingly help each other with notes, assignments, and exam preparation.

What truly stands out is the social awareness among students. Many are deeply engaged with contemporary issues, which makes group discussions and classroom interactions both meaningful and thought-provoking.

Of course, as with any institution, peer quality can vary. However, the overall student community is serious about their goals, active in co-curricular activities, and ambitious in their approach.

Peer Quality Rating: 4/5

The Faculty of Law at AMU offers a vibrant mix of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that significantly contribute to students’ overall development.

  • Law Society: The faculty has a well-structured Law Society comprising various committees such as the Editorial Board, ADR Committee, Moot Court Society, Debate & Discussion Committee, Environmental Cell, and more. Each committee regularly organizes events, competitions, and workshops, providing ample opportunities for skill enhancement and leadership development.
  • Moot Court & Debates: National and intra-faculty moot court competitions are held frequently. A strong debating culture is fostered through structured competitions and open discussions on legal and contemporary issues.
  • Essay Writing & Legal Awareness: The faculty conducts regular essay competitions, legal awareness campaigns, and judgment writing contests to sharpen students’ research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Cultural & Festive Events: The larger AMU campus boasts an active cultural life with university-wide fests, student-run events, and annual programs. Law students have ample opportunities to engage socially and culturally with peers from other faculties.
  • Social Life & Networking: The overall environment is intellectually enriching yet socially engaging. Students find various platforms to express themselves, connect with others, and build lasting professional and personal networks.

Co-curricular & Extra-curricular Activities Rating: 4.5/5

The Faculty of Law at AMU has a placement cell; however, it is currently not very active or effective in facilitating direct job placements. At present, most students rely on self-initiated efforts to secure internships with advocates, law firms, research organizations, legal blogs, and NGOs.

Despite the limited institutional placement support, students remain highly motivated and work diligently to build their profiles. They actively participate in moot courts, writing competitions, legal awareness campaigns, and internships with reputed organizations. Many students aspire to pursue careers in the judiciary, civil services, litigation, academia, or corporate law, and begin preparing for these paths early in their academic journey.

While the faculty provides strong academic guidance and encourages skill development, the absence of a robust and structured placement system remains a key area for improvement.

Placement Rating: 2.5/5

The hostels at AMU, especially those for law students, offer a secure and supportive living environment. Hostel allotment is based on merit and availability, and seats can be limited—particularly for first-year students.

  • Food Quality: One of the most remarkable aspects of the hostels is the excellent food quality. The meals are tasty, hygienic, and well-balanced—something that is rare in many university hostels. Students genuinely enjoy the food here, making it a major plus.
  • Cleanliness & Facilities: Cleanliness is maintained reasonably well. Each hostel provides basic amenities such as a mess, common room, and washrooms. While occasional electricity issues do occur, the overall facilities meet the students’ needs fairly well.
  • Safety & Medical Help: The environment is very safe and secure, especially for female students. Wardens, hostel staff, and university doctors are approachable and supportive, contributing to a sense of comfort and well-being.
  • Social Life: Hostel life at AMU fosters a strong sense of community and discipline, allowing students to grow both socially and academically.

Hostel Rating: 4/5

One of the best things about my college is its rich academic culture, seamlessly blended with a legacy of discipline and intellectual growth. The professors are humble, deeply knowledgeable, and consistently connect legal theory with real-world scenarios, making classroom learning truly enriching.

Another major highlight is the Law Society, which organizes moot courts, debates, editorial activities, and several committee-led initiatives—offering students like me valuable opportunities to grow beyond textbooks. Being part of the Editorial Board Committee has significantly enhanced my writing and research skills.

The campus environment is safe, inclusive, and culturally vibrant. And I must add—our hostel food is genuinely excellent, which makes everyday life more comfortable and enjoyable.

Most importantly, AMU instills a deep sense of pride and belonging. It’s not just a university—it’s a legacy. And I’m truly proud to be a part of it.

While I truly value my experience at AMU, there are a few areas where improvements could enhance the overall student experience:

  • Placement Cell: Although a placement cell exists, it is currently not very active or effective. Most students have to rely on their own efforts to secure internships and job opportunities. A more robust and supportive placement system would be a significant advantage for future batches.
  • Electricity Issues: One of the ongoing challenges in the hostels is frequent electricity disruptions. These can be particularly inconvenient during study hours or while attending online classes and activities.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: While Wi-Fi is generally available on campus, its connectivity is often unstable or completely absent at times, which hinders smooth access to online academic resources.
  • On a Positive Note: Despite these challenges, hostel accommodation is relatively accessible for first-year students, and the overall environment remains safe, inclusive, and supportive. With focused efforts, these issues can be effectively addressed to further improve the student experience.

My first year at the Faculty of Law, AMU has been a truly enriching experience. The university’s rich legacy, combined with dedicated faculty and a vibrant student community, has laid a strong foundation for my legal education.

While there are certainly areas that can be improved, I’m optimistic that with continued efforts, AMU will further establish itself as one of the premier law schools in the country.

I’m especially grateful for the opportunities to engage in moot courts, editorial boards, and various competitions, all of which have contributed immensely to my academic and personal growth. I look forward to making the most of my time here and contributing meaningfully to the university community.
