counsel for the petitioners.

Advocate for the State.
3. Petitioners have filed this petition for
protection. According to them, they attained the age
of majority; that, they got married on 17.01.2025 at
Arya Samaj Mandir, Shrawanath Nagar, Haridwar
with their own will without any pressure as per Hindu
rites and rituals against wishes of respondent no.3 to
5, who are parents and family member of petitioner
no.1, therefore, they are facing threat to their life and
liberty. As per documents enclosed with the writ
petition, both the petitioners are major. The marriage
is registered under Uttarakhand Compulsory
Registration of Marriages Act, 2010, which is
enclosed as Annexure No.1 to the writ petition.
4. Counsel for the petitioners would submit that
petitioner no.2 is Accountant by profession and
working in a Private Hospital at Haridwar and he has
sufficient means to maintain his wife (petitioner
no.1); that, petitioner no.1 is permanent resident of
Village Maharatpur Kala, P.O. Pooraini, Dhampur,
District Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, but presently she is
working as Nurse in the same hospital at Haridwar
where petitioner no.2 is working; that, both the
petitioners are Hindu by religion but belong to
different caste and this is the sole reason for dispute;
that, the petitioners are happy with each other, the
marriage of the petitioners is permissible under the
law as they are major and got married with their
sweet will but respondent nos.3 to 5 without any
cogent reason making interference in their peaceful
marriage life, hence, this petition.
5. Learned State Counsel seeks and is granted
time to get instructions as to whether they have real
threat to their life.
6. List this matter on 12.02.2025.
7. Meanwhile, S.H.O. Police Station, Kankhal,
District Haridwar is directed to provide protection to
the petitioners and ensure that no harm is caused to
them by respondent nos.3 to 5 or any other person
acting on their behest during this period.
S.H.O./respondent no.2 shall summon private
respondents and counsel them not to take law into
their hands or issue any threat or coercion to the
petitioners.
8. Urgency Application (IA/2/2025) stands
disposed of.
