ANM Global has launched a dedicated sports and gaming practice as market participants and investors seek increased legal advisory amid explosive growth and mounting regulatory complexity. The full-service law firm consolidated existing expertise into the new division to address surging demand for specialized legal counsel.
ANM Global’s sports practice will be led by founder Nidhish Mehrotra. The gaming division falls under Anushree Rauta, equity partner and head of media and entertainment.
Mehrotra brings deep experience in advising athletes, football clubs, associations, sports organizations, and leagues organizers on matters ranging from contracts and sponsorships to regulatory compliance and dispute resolution.
India’s sports industry is growing at twice the GDP rate. The sector targets $130 billion in market size as new legislation reshapes the landscape. The National Sports Governance Act 2025 established clearer oversight mechanisms and dispute resolution frameworks.
“Sports and gaming are two of the most exciting and high-growth industries in India right now,” Mehrotra said. “By launching a dedicated practice, we’re ensuring our clients have access to lawyers who not only understand the law, but also the business and culture of these sectors. We have lawyers who are not just lawyers but sportsmen too who understand the on-ground realities.”
Rauta emphasized the gaming sector’s transformation. “India’s gaming landscape is at a pivotal moment with real money gaming, e-sports, fantasy platforms rapidly transforming the ecosystem,” she said.
Gaming revenues are projected to reach $4.5 billion by 2025. Online gaming users are expected to surpass 517 million. Esports alone could exceed $1 billion this year, growing to $1.4 billion by 2028.
However, regulatory complexity persists. A patchwork of state and central laws creates compliance challenges. The 28 percent GST on gaming deposits has sparked legal disputes. States like Tamil Nadu impose strict restrictions while others license skill-based games.
Legal demand spans multiple areas. Companies need guidance on regulatory compliance, M&A and investment, contract negotiations, and dispute resolution. Intellectual property protection and consumer safeguards are growing concerns as platforms expand.
“Through our dedicated gaming law practice, we aim to bridge the gap between innovation and regulation, offering strategic, forward-looking legal solutions to clients navigating this space,” Rauta observes.
