The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, in association with Georgia Southern University, USA, successfully organized a Five-Day Certificate Course on Human Rights and Justice from 2nd to 6th June 2025. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti, the course was coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjit Kumar Chakraborty and co-coordinated by Dr. Surja Kanta Baladhikari.
The Inaugural Ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice (Retd.) Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, Chairman, West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC), as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Nalanda Roy from the Department of Political Science and International Studies, Georgia Southern University, as the Guest of Honour. Justice Bhattacharya and Prof. Roy delivered the Inaugural and Keynote addresses, respectively.
In the presence of an esteemed gathering, the Welcome Address was delivered by Shri Raja Chakraborty, Registrar, WBNUJS, followed by a Vote of Thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjit Kumar Chakraborty.
The course witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 60 attendees representing various disciplines in the social sciences. Over 20 distinguished resource persons from India and abroad, known for their contributions to the fields of Human Rights and Justice, engaged with the participants through interactive and insightful sessions.
The academic discussions encompassed a wide array of topics, including the historical development of human rights, contemporary challenges, and research methodologies in the domain of Human Rights and Justice. An assessment was conducted as part of the course, and certificates were awarded to participants upon successful completion.
The Valedictory Ceremony took place on the afternoon of 6th June. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti delivered the Valedictory Address. Certificates were distributed by Prof. Nalanda Roy and Prof. (Dr.) Sanjit Kumar Chakraborty, and the ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Surja Kanta Baladhikari.
