First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression
On the first day, I was introduced to the firm’s routine and team structure. The office was conveniently located near the Bombay High Court, making commuting easy. The work environment was both professional and welcoming, with senior lawyers and fellow interns always ready to offer guidance.
Main Tasks
My primary tasks included monitoring the Bombay High Court causelist daily to track hearings related to the firm’s cases. I was responsible for staying updated on court schedules, notices, and any changes affecting the hearings.
Additionally, I participated in legal research and drafted initial statements based on client interactions. This hands-on experience gave me a practical understanding of how litigation work is divided across teams, particularly in areas like research and case presentation.
Work Environment
The work environment at SD Partners was highly collaborative, with a strong emphasis on communication and teamwork. Senior lawyers encouraged interns to ask questions and actively participate in discussions.
Although the litigation field is fast-paced and occasionally unpredictable, the firm maintained a professional atmosphere where deadlines were respected and everyone worked toward common goals. Its close proximity to the court also allowed for smooth coordination with clients and court staff.
Good Things about the Internship
The internship provided invaluable exposure to real-world litigation processes, going far beyond classroom theory. I developed practical skills in case monitoring, legal research, and understanding court procedures.
The supportive team environment and direct interaction with senior counsels significantly enriched my learning experience. The firm’s structured approach, dividing tasks among specialized teams, offered valuable insight into effective collaboration within legal practice.
Overall, the experience deepened my interest in litigation and equipped me with a strong foundation for future roles in the legal field.
Bad Things about the Internship
The workload could be intense during peak court periods, which at times made balancing tasks challenging. As an intern, opportunities to develop oral advocacy skills were limited, as most courtroom exposure involved observation rather than active participation.

Details about the Accommodation, Commuting to the Office
I stayed at home during the internship and commuted daily using local trains and buses. Despite Mumbai’s busy traffic, the firm’s location near the Bombay High Court made commuting manageable. The firm did not provide any accommodation.
Anything else you want to share?
To unwind, I explored the Fort area in the evenings, visiting law offices and iconic Parsi cafés. I often strolled around landmarks like the BSE, RBI, and Horniman Circle, and spent relaxing nights at Marine Drive.
Discovering food spots across Mumbai’s busiest and most upscale areas helped me relax and stay motivated. Beyond legal skills, the internship also taught me valuable lessons in teamwork, discipline, and adaptability.
