About the Seminar

The International Seminar on “Climate Justice in a Warming World: Evolving Paradigms in Law, Action, and Technology” is jointly organized by the Vaikunta Baliga College of Law, Udupi,Centre for Environmental Law Education, Research and Advocacy (CEERA)andKerala Law Academy Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. It aims to raise awareness about the severe threat posed by climate change and its far-reaching consequences.

Climate change has emerged as a pressing global concern, shaking the very foundation of our planet. Its adverse impacts have disrupted the physical and biological balance of the Earth, with profound social, legal, economic, and cultural repercussions.

The disproportionate burden of climate change has worsened the existing inequalities, leaving the poor and marginalized sections of society from the mainstream. Environmental degradation and climate change have intensified the scarcity of essential resources such as food and water. Forest dwellers, tribals, and indigenous communities often face greater injustices due to the non-availability of resources.

The right to a clean environment and the right against climate change are closely linked, representing two sides of the same coin. However, as it is rightly observed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, due to the increase in adverse effects of climate change it became imperative to handle it as a separate right.

Achieving climate justice is made more attainable in today’s technologically advanced world with the support of innovations, legal frameworks, and effective policies. In this context, the seminar seeks to bring together legal luminaries, academicians, scientists, industrialists, environmentalists, and other stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on climate change, its challenges, and pathways toward achieving climate justice.
