🔍 About the Seminar
The Department of Law, Assam University, is proud to host a three-day National Seminar on “Uniform Civil Code: An Instrument of Uniform Justice”, aiming to explore the legal, socio-cultural, historical, and political dimensions of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). This seminar brings together a diverse set of stakeholders—legal scholars, constitutional experts, jurists, policymakers, activists, and students—to engage in a critical dialogue on harmonizing personal laws in alignment with justice, equality, dignity, and non-discrimination.
The UCC, rooted in Article 44 of the Indian Constitution, is envisioned as a transformative legal mechanism to unify personal laws across religious lines, thereby fostering national integration, constitutional morality, and secular justice. The seminar seeks to critically evaluate the challenges and possibilities of implementing a model UCC that strengthens India’s democratic fabric.
