The Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu has recently passed the Tamil Nadu Mineral Bearing Land Tax Act, 2024, published in the TN Govt. Gazette on February 20, 2025, imposing ‘Mineral Bearing Land Tax‘ on mining of various minerals, including limestone at ₹ 160 per metric tonne.
The notification related to mineral bearing land tax is set to impact all Tamil Nadu-based cement producers. “The said levy is likely to have an impact of about ₹ 130 Crore per annum, which the Company will try to pass on to its customers,” said Dalmia Bharat Limited said in their regulatory filing.
The Act shall come into force on the date as the Government of Tamil Nadu may, by notification, appoint, which is not yet notified.
