I sent my CV to an associate working there via LinkedIn, and he forwarded it to HR, who got back to me with a confirmation email within a week.

On the first day, I arrived at the main office, which is situated underground. The firm has two offices, with the other one located within walking distance. The main office handles Litigation and Dispute Resolution interns, while the other office is for General Corporate interns.

The HR, Pinky Rajaura, was very warm and cordial. She asked for my necessary details, inquired about the team I preferred to work with, and assigned me a mentor. The office had approximately 20 people, including associates, senior associates, principal associates, etc.

Interns had two separate workstations, each accommodating up to four interns at a time. I was assigned a task by the Principal Associate, Mr. Surekh Kant Baxy, and it wasn’t too difficult for me, as I had prior experience with legal research.

The primary tasks assigned to me involved researching various legal propositions that were directly relevant to the cases being handled by the team. I was asked to research:

  • Cases where the NCLT modified its own order despite not having the express authority to do so under the IBC.
  • Instances where the NCLT rectified an order beyond mere arithmetic or clerical errors, thus expanding the interpretation of its rectification powers beyond Section 60(5) of the IBC.
  • Whether a person arrested under Section 50 of the PMLA can also be arrested under Section 19 of the same Act.
  • Cases where, after the approval of a resolution plan, a creditor who failed to file a claim cannot subsequently approach the court, even after liquidation has commenced under the IBC.
  • Situations where auction proceedings held for the benefit of a creditor remain valid under SARFAESI, even if an erstwhile owner later finds a buyer offering a higher price post-auction.
  • Cases where a shareholder’s suit was dismissed and the third party (bank) was protected under the Doctrine of Indoor Management.
  • Whether, if an issue of maintainability is raised in court, the matter can still be referred to arbitration under Section 18 of the MSME Act.

The overall work environment was decent. I met a few interns who were open to interacting, although most of them were seniors. The office also has a coffee and tea machine, and you can help yourself to unlimited coffee, which is a nice perk. The associates are generally quite busy and usually don’t assign tasks unless you proactively approach them, which was a bit disappointing.

One of the good things about this internship was that it provided valuable exposure to corporate work culture. It emphasized the importance of punctuality, consistency, hard work, and the necessity of networking.

One downside of this internship was that the work assigned was mostly limited to legal research, so I didn’t get to learn as much as I had expected.

No accommodation was provided by the office. I commuted daily for about 2 hours and 15 minutes by metro from Greater Noida to Lajpat Nagar.
