Tell us about the infrastructure of your law college
The infrastructure of my college, being a government-aided institution, is overall average. However, the Law Department stands out with the neatest and, in my opinion, the best classrooms in the entire college. There are two libraries — a central library accessible to all departments, and a dedicated law library that offers a focused academic environment for law students.
The sports facilities are excellent, with various sports activities conducted regularly, making this one of the college’s strongest aspects. I haven’t personally stayed in the hostels, but according to friends who have, the hostel rooms are decent.
Based on all these factors, I would rate the overall infrastructure of the college 3 out of 5.
How are the academic culture and faculty in your college?
The academic culture at VSSD College, especially in the three-year LL.B. program, is fairly structured, though not very strict in terms of attendance, as students are not required to attend regularly. Despite this, classes are conducted on a regular basis, and faculty members take their lectures seriously.
While I don’t know the exact number of faculty members, the overall quality is above average. Many professors come from reputed academic backgrounds, including institutions like BHU and other respected universities, which adds significant academic value to the course.
During my second semester, classes were held from 12:15 PM to 4:45 PM, with each class typically lasting 40 to 45 minutes. Taking all these factors into account, I would rate the academic culture and faculty at the college 3 out of 5.
How’s the peer quality in your college? Rate it on a scale of 5 with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.
The peer quality in my college is, in my opinion, okay. Students come from diverse academic and economic backgrounds, which brings a mix of perspectives to the classroom. While the level of academic seriousness varies among individuals, the overall atmosphere among peers is friendly and approachable.
There’s nothing particularly exceptional or problematic about the student crowd — just a generally decent and manageable social environment.
I would rate it 4 out of 5.
Tell us about the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
When it comes to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, particularly within the Law Department of the college, the environment is quite limited. In almost a year, I haven’t seen any active clubs, societies, committees, or departmental fests. The only notable events have been the fresher’s and farewell parties.
While the college does host NSS and NCC programs in which law students are welcome to participate, there is otherwise a clear lack of organized student engagement beyond academics. The social life is decent at best — especially considering that out of approximately 320 enrolled students, only around 50–60 attend classes regularly, which affects the overall vibrancy of student interaction.
Based on this, I would rate the co-curricular and extra-curricular scene 2 out of 5.
How are the placements in your college?
In terms of placements, I can’t speak for other departments, but the Law Department of the college does make some efforts to connect students with internship opportunities. These are mainly facilitated through associations with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and local district court advocates, who occasionally host webinars and select students for internships. Information about such opportunities is typically shared via the department’s official WhatsApp group.
While these initiatives are helpful, there is no active or structured placement cell in the college. Additionally, a significant number of students enrolled in the law program are primarily focused on preparing for judicial services exams rather than seeking immediate job placements.
Considering all of this, I would rate the placement efforts and opportunities 3 out of 5.
How are the hostels in your college?
As a local student, I do not reside in the college hostel and therefore have limited personal experience with its facilities. However, based on feedback from a few friends who stay there, I can say that the hostel is decent and very pocket-friendly, making it a practical option for outstation students.
I’m not fully aware of the number of vacancies, cleanliness standards, or detailed amenities. The known facilities include a mess, basic bed maintenance, and access to a tennis court, but not much beyond that.
Based solely on what I’ve heard from others, I would rate the hostel experience 3 out of 5.
What are the best things you like about your college?
One of the most admirable aspects of my college is the rich legacy it holds. With a history spanning over 100 years, the institution stands as a symbol of academic tradition and heritage. The British-era architecture adds a unique charm to the campus, reflecting its longstanding presence in India’s educational landscape.
What I particularly appreciate is the highly affordable fee structure, which makes quality education accessible to students from all economic backgrounds. The college has also had the honor of accommodating some renowned freedom fighters and thinkers, adding immense historical and cultural value to its name.
In your opinion, what are bad things about your college?
One of the key drawbacks I’ve observed in my college, particularly in the Law Department, is the lack of proper infrastructure. While the classrooms are spacious, they suffer from poor ventilation and are still equipped with basic whiteboards, with no digital teaching aids available. The toilets are rarely cleaned, and the water cooler is often out of order — a major inconvenience, especially during the summer.
Most fans in the classrooms either lack regulators or are broken, making the rooms unbearably hot during peak summer months like May and June — often leaving us drenched in sweat while attending class. Another serious issue is the absence of a mic or speaker system in large classrooms. As a result, students sitting at the back can barely hear the lectures due to ambient noise and disturbances.
Additionally, I find the class timings (12:15 PM to 4:45 PM) quite inconvenient. The late start and end time make it difficult to stay focused, and many students end up leaving after attending just one or two classes. These issues, if addressed, could significantly improve the overall academic experience.
