About the Course
Course Name: Dignity Rights Clinic
The course will examine the concept of Dignity, both as a value and as a fundamental right in the Constitution of India. The preamble to the Constitution assures that the dignity of the individual will be respected. Dignity appears in the preamble along with other values of the constitution such as equality, liberty and fraternity along with social political and economic justice. The Indian Supreme Court has developed a significant body of caselaw interpreting the Art. 21 right to life as the right to live with dignity.
The course will explore the impact of dignity on these other values and the influence of these other values on dignity.
Eligibility
- You are a lawyer with an interest in comparative constitutional theory and practice with a particular focus on dignity rights
- You are a master’s student of a social science discipline with an interface with law
- You are a student of law having completed a course in constitutional law
- You are a faculty from an academic institution interested in researching or teaching comparative constitutional law or clinical legal education
