About NLUO
The National Law University Odisha (NLUO), established under Act 4 of 2008, has quickly risen as a prominent institution in Indian legal education. Since beginning its academic activities in 2009, NLUO has built a strong reputation through the outstanding achievements of its students in moot courts, debates, and conferences, as well as the high-quality research output of its faculty. Formatting Guidelines
- All essays must be original, unpublished work and must not have been submitted elsewhere for consideration.
- To ensure comprehensive analysis and depth of research, the maximum word limit is to 3,000–3,500 words, excluding footnotes.
- The permissible level of plagiarism and AI is strictly capped at 10%; all submissions will be screened using reliable plagiarism detection software.
- All submissions must adhere to the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st Edition) for referencing and footnoting.
- Essays must be written in English, formatted in Times New Roman, 12 font size, with 1.5 line spacingand justified alignment for clear readability. Footnotes are to be formatted in 10 font size and 1.0 spacing.
- During submission, the final draft should be submitted in PDF format in Google Forms, and the file name should be “Participant Name_Title”. Participants are also expected to submit their AI and Plagiarism reports.

Fee
Registration Fees- Different categories of participants shall pay the registration fee according to the following slab:
- Students:
- Single Author – ₹300/-
- Co-Authorship (maximum of two authors) – ₹500/-
- Faculty / Professionals:
- Single Author – ₹700/-
- Co-Authorship (maximum of two authors) – ₹1200/-
Important dates
The Essay Writing Competition will be conducted according to a structured timeline to ensure smooth participation and evaluation. Registrations will open till 30th August 2025, giving students ample time to prepare and submit their essays by the final deadline of 30th September 2025.
Prizes
- The first prize winner will receive ₹10,000,
- The second prize will receive ₹7,000,
- The third prize will be awarded ₹5,000.
Beyond these, the best ten essays will be selected for publication in the Centre’s official newsletter, providing participants with a valuable opportunity to showcase their work to a broader academic audience.
