About Panjab University
Panjab University, established in 1882 (originally in Lahore), is one of India’s oldest universities. Located in Chandigarh, it houses 75 departments and 15 centres dedicated to research and education. With 188 affiliated colleges across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh, the university plays a key role in higher education in North India. It promotes learning and research in arts, science, literature, and professional disciplines. Notable infrastructure includes the A.C. Joshi Library with over 800,000 books and periodicals, and a vast sports complex.
About Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion (CSSI)
The Centre was established in 2007 under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act. Its mission is to critically investigate and address issues of social exclusion, discrimination, and inequality. The Centre’s work focuses on communities such as Dalits, Adivasis, women, persons with disabilities, and religious minorities. It promotes inclusive research, educational opportunities, and ethical approaches to social justice
Seminar Theme Overview
India’s developmental landscape continues to be shaped by long-standing social inequalities. Caste-based exclusion, poverty, gender gaps, and regional disparities persist despite constitutional safeguards and welfare policies. Marginalized groups—including SCs, STs, OBCs, women, persons with disabilities, and minorities—remain underrepresented in education, healthcare, digital access, and employment.
With the increasing role of technology in governance and economic systems, the digital divide has further amplified exclusion, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Marginalization manifests across social, economic, political, and technological domains, limiting opportunities and access to rights.
Social inclusion is a transformative approach to eliminate these disparities. It aims to empower disadvantaged groups, ensure their participation in public life, and promote equitable access to resources and opportunities. This seminar seeks to explore the underlying causes of exclusion, critically evaluate current policies, and discuss new pathways for inclusive and sustainable development.

Call for Papers
Scholars, students, practitioners, and researchers are invited to submit original research on any sub-theme. Selected abstracts will be invited for presentation, and quality papers will be published in a reputed book.
