About the Conference
The Oxford Dharma Centre for Research and Policy invites submissions for the Oxford Dharma Conference 2025, which aims to reimagine Dharma as both a normative and analytic framework across law, economics, leadership, and civilisational studies. Rooted in the Sanskrit root dhṛ (“that which sustains”), Dharma offers a systems-thinking paradigm that foregrounds sustainability, relational ethics, and holistic governance.

Themes & Sub-Themes
Submissions may engage with one or more of the following thematic tracks:

  1. Dharma and Law

    • Legal positivism and Dharmic jurisprudence

    • Relational justice and legal pluralism

    • Legal personhood beyond humans

    • Dharma in post-colonial legal reform

  2. Dharma and Economics

    • Artha-dharma aligned prosperity models

    • Ethical entrepreneurship

    • Non-extractive, regenerative economic practices

    • Dharma as a critique of capitalism

  3. Dharma and Civilisation

    • Civilisational memory and continuity

    • Aesthetics and art as Dharmic expressions

    • Pluralism, coexistence, and decolonial theory

    • Dharma in global civilisational dialogue

  4. Dharma and Social Leadership

    • Inclusive leadership rooted in plural worldviews

    • Leadership as seva (service)

    • Participatory governance through Dharmic principles

    • Indigenous governance models and Dharma

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract length: ~500 words

  • Should include: research question, methodology (if applicable), core argument, and relevance to the conference theme

  • Submission types accepted: Academic papers, policy briefs, and practice-based insights

  • Deadline for abstracts: 15 August 2025

  • Notification of acceptance: 20 August 2025

  • Full paper deadline (for proceedings): 10 September 2025
