New Delhi, 26 May 2025: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vipul M. Pancholi as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. The recommendation marks a significant milestone in Justice Pancholi’s distinguished judicial career.
Early Life and Education
Born on 28th May 1968 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Justice Vipul M. Pancholi holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics from St. Xavier’s College, affiliated with Gujarat University. He went on to complete his Master of Law (LL.M.) in the Commercial Law from Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad, also under Gujarat University.
Legal Career and Practice
Justice Pancholi began his legal practice in September 1991 at the High Court of Gujarat. Over the years, he built a robust practice in diverse areas of law, including:
- Criminal Law
- Civil Law
- Property Law
- Service Law
- Family Law
- Banking Law
He was appointed as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor at the Gujarat High Court and served in that capacity until March 2006.
In addition to his legal practice, Justice Pancholi contributed to legal academia. He served as Honorary Joint Editor of The Gujarat Law Herald for two years and as a visiting faculty member at Sir L.A. Shah Law College for an impressive 21 years, starting in December 1993.
Judicial Appointments
Justice Pancholi was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gujarat High Court on 1st October 2014 and was confirmed as a Permanent Judge on 10th June 2016.
On 24th July 2023, he was transferred to the Patna High Court, where he took oath as a Judge. His transfer added valuable judicial experience and strengthened the bench of the Patna High Court.
Recommendation as Chief Justice
On 26th May 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium officially recommended Justice Vipul M. Pancholi for appointment as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court. This recommendation acknowledges his years of judicial service, legal scholarship, and commitment to the rule of law.
