About UDGAM 2025

Dedicated to examining the legal, social, and emotional dimensions of Honour Culture & Crimes, “Udgam” is envisioned as an enriching addition to the legal curriculum, to encourage students to critically assess existing legal frameworks, judicial responses, and human rights implications – in light of the prevalent social & ethnographic conditions.

Through discussions and performative engagements, students will gain a deeper understanding of honour culture & violence as both a societal & legal challenge – fostering informed advocacy & empathetic legal practice.

Why this Workshop?

This workshop intends to broaden the conversation beyond just legal theory which is imperative for law students today. The criminal justice system is a complex web of interconnected stakeholders, and effective legal practice requires an understanding of how each component functions.

It is a unique opportunity to engage with stakeholders beyond the courtroom, which are not only legal experts and academicians, but also representatives from key pillars of the criminal justice system, including the Police, the NGOs, and the Media. This direct interaction will provide invaluable insights into their roles in investigating, prosecuting, and spreading awareness against honour-based crimes.

It aims to develop a holistic perspective by delving deep into the social context and root causes of such crimes which are often neglected, leading to an empathetic approach while dealing with such cases where emotion and sensitivity play a major role. Udgam 2025, therefore aspires to move from legal principles to real-world application. It provides a platform to contribute to a meaningful dialogue and equip oneself with the interdisciplinary knowledge necessary to combat honour based crimes and truly uphold the principle that “hope begins where justice prevails”.
